For most all of his life, Eric Kruse has been doing some form of art. As a kid, he would hang out in his father’s workshop learning woodworking skills while helping him with his wood projects. Eric’s business, Signed in Wood brings together his passion for art and the love for all the different types of wood that he learned long ago. Eric makes one of a kind art pieces using reclaimed, recycled and salvaged wood. He keeps the natural curvatures, grains, and finishes to produce pieces with rustic character and interest. The wood comes from shipping pallets, fences, and discarded lumber. Eric chooses out these pieces of wood and uses self-taught methods to stain them with organic pigments, such as chili powder, turmeric, rusty nails and mixing them with vinegar.
Eric has been doing this type of artwork for less than 2 years and likes the unpredictable element of working with wood. He goes through a lot of trial and error depending on the type of wood to make sure the finished product brings out the beautiful natural qualities of the wood. Eric excels as wood portraits, logos, pet portraits, wildlife, autos and just about anything you would want ot carve into wood. Custom pieces are his specialty.
